Hello world! Welcome to This Vet’s Story

Welcome to my new blog.

I’m not yet a vet, but I will be in December this year and will be blogging about my experiences. It seems like half the people I speak to say “Oh, I always wanted to be a vet but didn’t get the marks” or “You’ll have such a wonderful life playing with animals all day”. I’d like them to know what it’s like. Really like.

And I’d like those nearly-vets out there to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Vet school seems like an endless trial at times, but you will get out into the real world eventually. I helps to be prepared.

Not to mention it’s stressful. Having people to connect with and empathise with helps me deal with stress, whether they’re friends and family or other random bloggers on the Internet. Also there’s a chance that another vet out there will read this one day and realise that they aren’t alone either. Because we’re not.

So I have this blog for a number of reasons. On any given day I may be stressed, elated, saddened, sarcastic, helpful, entertaining or just plain weird. We’ll have to see. I’m just hoping that you’ll realise not all vets are like those you see on television. We have hopes, dreams, fears of inadequacy, forgetful moments and wonderful memories. We have favourite clients, clients we dread, patients we’d rather see the back of and animals that are so wonderful that we cry when they die too.
