My Veterinary To-Do List

Veterinarians do more with their degree than standing around a clinic vaccinating dogs and cats. They treat every species on the planet except one, and even then they manage parts of human food safety. There is so much you can do with a BVSc or a DMV, and there is so much I’d like to one day do with mine.

This is a list that I can add to and cross off as I go along.

• Castrate and spay 300 pets
• Do a calving in the rain and get it out alive
• Do a foaling
• Travel to the UK and earn some serious cash for two years
• Travel to Sri Lanka or India with Vets Beyond Borders and work for bugger all.
• Go on a live export ship with sheep to the Middle East.
• Do a small research project on a niggly little question.
• Specialise in something.
• Be personally requested by a client.
• Feel genuinely clever for once
• Come back home, find a good clinic and settle down for 10+ years to start a family
• Teach work experience students
• Maybe even teach at a tertiary institution
• Retire
• Get bored of retirement and start consulting part time
