Job Hunting
As just-about-to-graduate vet, one of my major pastimes at the moment is job hunting. I legally can’t start work until another week and a bit, but I desperately want to know where I’m going so I can make plans. I want to get out of the family home and into a place of my own. I want to rule my own kitchen. I want my Xmas presents this year to double as housewarming presents. I want to feel like a mature, independent adult with a shiny new degree and a license to practice veterinary medicine.
But equally important is the fact that I don’t want to be out of clinics for too long. It’s been five weeks since I’ve been doing a solid day of vet work, 14 weeks since I’ve handled a horse or a cow, and I’m worried about forgetting things. I want a job as soon as I can get one, but it still has to tick all the boxes.
- Mixed Practice, slightly more smallies
- Ultrasound and Xray
- Happy nurses
- At least 3 vets
There are other, less vital criteria, which become increasingle less important as time passes. I’ve put in a dozen applications and have two interviews scheduled, so at least I know my resume isn’t terrible. There seems to be a shortage of jobs on the market, which is another reason I want to be signed on sooner rather than later.
I’ll keep you posted, although I realise you’d rather read about vet things instead of unemployed things. Just keep your fingers crossed that I come across a wonderful job that will give me amazing stories to tell.
