About This Vet

This blog is the stomping ground for Nearly-Dr Ferox . She graduated in December 2009 and has begun life as a new veterinarian.

She has a job with a bit of everything- dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, wildlife, cattle and pet horses. She won’t be too upset if she never sees another race horse in her life. She’s got a mixed practice job in a not-so-small town but mostly is seeing small animals.  She’s looking for an adventure with her vet degree that will enrich her life with wonderful stories to tell. She’s found quite a lot of stress, internal politics, challenges and a lot of cases out of left field, but definitely an adventure.

She tolerates a lot of stupid things by perpetually clinging to the belief that she’ll look back on them one day and laugh. It helps if she writes about them and you laugh too.

The single most important she has learned so far is that the people are just as interesting, and sometimes in need of help, as their animals are. It’s all very well to say “It’s just an animal”, but when the welbeing of that animal in intricately linked to the wellbeing of the human, you cannot dismiss it.

Above all, if you can share a little knowledge and a little laughter it makes the world a better place.
