Tis the Season
While it looks like I wont be starting work until January, I now have some time to organise myself in preparation for moving interstate and my first day at work as a fully qualified veterinarian.
I can’t possibly revise everything in time, and even if I did it would be as useles as cramming for exams, so I’m devising a more targeted approach to my revision.
Fortunately, I get to spend Xmas with my family, rather than with dogs that have contracted pancreatitis, chocolate toxicity or macadamia nut toxicity. Instead I’ll be starting work slap-bang in the middle of snake bite season, allergy season and heatstroke season, in addition to all the usual suspects that crop up at any time of year, such as hit-by-cars and not-quite-rights. Flying High
Tomorrow, one lucky vet clinic is flying one lucky just-about-vet (that’s me) interstate for a day-long interview.
It’s such a buzz to feel wanted like that. I must have said something right on my cover letter or had the right referee. Whatever it was, they’ve forked out for my airfares and are going to take care of me for the day.
It sounds like a great place. Anyone who says “We have machines that go ping” must have a sense of humour, and the scope of cases they see sounds extensive and fascinating. There’s bound to be a good story or two to tell there. Mixed practice, every type of animal except zoo inhabitants, and willingness to give each case a go before referring straight away.
It is far from home, but it’s near a friend’s place. She gets visitors often enough so I’m sure I will too. It sounds a little bit frontier, but not isolated.
Fingers crossed for me.
